Overview

Introduction to PLC Copilot.

PLC Copilot is a purpose-built AI agent for operational technology. With enterprise-grade guardrails, it helps controls engineers with their daily tasks, from developing new systems, to troubleshooting and maintenance, and upgrading legacy systems.

Purpose-built: Designed for industrial automation, not general-purpose coding. It understands the nuances of OT that general-purpose tools miss.

Guardrails: Built with the security and safety demands of the physical world in mind. Every response is validated before it is shown to you, reducing the risk of unsafe or invalid suggestions reaching the plant floor.

Human-in-the-loop: You make the decisions. The agent asks for approval, changes are easy to review, and you can always revert.

Overview of PLC Copilot

Agentic AI for PLC Programming

An AI agent is software that can plan and take multi-step actions toward a goal, not just answer a single prompt. PLC Copilot applies that model to controls work, boosting the quality and efficiency of programming projects from first draft through plant handover.

  • Develop Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagrams, and Structured Text, validated for your specific IDE
  • Understand inherited routines with rung-level explanations and cross-project references
  • Troubleshoot in minutes instead of hours. AI traces all interlocks and cross references logic to pinpoint the issue
  • Documents exported as PDF or Spreadsheets, ready for handoffs and team reviews
  • Commission with easier reviews, test plans, and faster issue discovery before you go live

How It Works

PLC Copilot is a local-first agent built for strict OT security. Your source code stays on your local machine, keeping your intellectual property protected.

When you issue a request, the agent automatically breaks down the goal, runs local search and tools to gather context across routines and tag lists, then pre-validates logic against your IDE rules and finally presents a response. Rather than guessing, it works iteratively to trace interlocks and logic across your project. If you request an edit, the Copilot proposes a solution and then waits for your review and explicit approval before anything is modified.

PLC Copilot requires connection to a Large Language Model (LLM) to power the agent. The LLM is used to process the conversation, call tools, and take actions. For AI processing, you can use our secure service out of the box (Subscription Plan), or connect to your own AI provider, such as AWS, Azure, Anthropic or OpenAI, for a fully on-premise setup (Perpetual License).
